Williams Edwards and VP George Potts recently attended training titled
"The Traumas of Law Enforcement". This training dealt with officers
response to an in the line of duty death and serious injury. Sponsored
by The Concerns of Police Survivors

Both Potts and Edwards used their
own time to attend this three day training in New Jersey. the speakers
went into detail about the dos and don'ts of interacting with family of
fallen officers, both immediately aftr a death and in the long term.

Automotive, our longtime partners with the Police Youth Mentor Program/Waterford
Speedbowl partnership offered a $2000.00 donation to the PBA to be used
for this year’s Gang Resistance Program (GREAT). GREAT is taught
by a uniformed officer to the middle school students in New London. With
the current budget crisis in the City, the Karns family has really stepped
up to the plate. What a generous donation. The money will benefit our
city’s youth.

At a recent NL Neighborhood Academy class,
The PBA gave Jefferson Ave Resident Josephine Suarez a plaque in appriciation
for her involvment in the apprehension of three knife weilding tire slashers.
On a cold February night Ms Suarez tracked down the three suspects that
caused thousands of dollars in damage and made positive ID to police.

New London Community and Campus Coalition presents Ed Cramer
from Yellow front Package stores a plaque in appreciation for business
efforts and contributions toward NL youth safety.
Cramer is a founding member of New London Community and Campus Coalition
Census of the homeless.

Billy Jr and Karen Melbourne of Sound Community Services participating
in the "point & time count" a national census of the homeless.
The homeless were searched for in wooded sections of New London during
the evening hours last week.

Honored For Youth Alcohol Prevention Efforts
New London Community
& Campus Coalition |
New London — The city's
police department was recently selected as the 2005 Best Overall Youth
Alcohol Prevention Program by the Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association.
The department was honored for enforcement of the law on driving under
the influence of alcohol or drugs and for being a founding member
and active participant in the New London Community and Campus Coalition.
Police Chief Bruce Rinehart credited members of his department and
said the department will continue to enforce the law and make youth
alcohol prevention a high priority.
The department conducts the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)
program and the G.R.E.A.T. program at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle
School and New London High School |

The State
Office of Policy and Management & the Gov. Office has selected
the New London Community & Campus Coalition as the " State
of Connecticut Coalition of the Year" The Connecticut Coalition
to Stop Underage Drinking honored our coalition for our efforts to
stop high risk behavior among teens in New London. N.L.C.C.C. is funded
through a C.C.S.U.D. grant which ends in June of 2006.
O.P.M. recognized the N.L.P.D. 's close working relationship with
the other partner's in this coalition as the reason we were selected

Geraldine Tom became a member of the PBA drinking club at Hanafins Pud.
Torn will recieve $1.00 off each pint and is now an honorary member for
2007-2008.
$450 was raised for the Tyler Dyer foundation.

The PBA thanks Tom Spinnato and his family
who gave a much needed face lift to our remote control Buggie.
Tom made the restoration task a family project, painting and rewiring
the electronics, making the car like new.
